YOUR EYES ARE QUITE EXTRAORDINARY

During an eye examination, an Optometrist routinely studies the anterior of your eyes to look for any sign of abnormalities. With an OCT we are now able to scan the back of your eye allowing us to study your eyes in incredible detail from the top surface of your retina down to the underlying surfaces, not visible to us by other means. Also, by keeping records of these images for you, we can compare them the next time you visit.

OCT is an innovative imaging technique used to obtain high resolution 3D images of your retina. Our state of the art OCT imaging system provides exquisite details of retinal microstructures to assist in early detection & monitoring of various retinal diseases, and other health issues.

WHAT IS AN OCT SCAN?

An OCT scan, short for Optical Coherence Tomography, is a quick, painless eye health check that gives our optometrists a highly detailed, three-dimensional view of the back of your eye. Using safe light waves (not radiation), the scan captures microscopic layers of your retina in seconds, revealing structures that simply cannot be seen during a standard eye examination. It’s non-invasive, takes just a few minutes, and requires no eye drops or contact with the eye itself.

WHO SHOULD HAVE AN OCT SCAN?

We recommend an OCT scan for everyone, but it’s particularly valuable if you:

  • Are aged 25 or over
  • Have a family history of glaucoma, AMD, or diabetes
  • Are diabetic or have been told you’re at risk Have noticed changes to your vision, floaters, or flases of light
  • Haven’t had a detailed eye health check in over two years

Many of the conditions an OCT scan detects develop silently – with no symptoms until significant damage has already occurred. The scan acts as an early warning system, giving you and your optometrist the information needed to act promptly.

WHY SHOULD I HAVE AN OCT SCAN?

Having an OCT health check in combination with your normal eye test will allow us to obtain the most detailed information about your overall eye health. Early detection will lead to timely treatment and better outcomes for the health of your eye and your overall health.
